Spectra™ Caries Detection Aid from Air Techniques – FDA Cleared

Date: 08/27/2009

Melville, New York.
This remarkable innovation from Air Techniques, Inc.  is now FDA cleared and available for sale. Spectra is a lightweight, ergonomic, handheld digital imaging instrument that aids the dentist in detecting caries visually.

The use of digital caries detection technology in today’s dental practice is important for attaining the highest standards of care. With Spectra, you offer your patients not only the latest technology in non-invasive digital imaging, you’re giving them state-of-the–art treatment and improved overall patient care.

Spectra operates using fluorescence technology. LED’s project high-energy light with a wavelength of 405 nanometers onto the tooth surface causing cariogenic bacteria to fluoresce red. In contrast, healthy enamel fluoresces green. The captured data is sent to the computer and the live image is presented on the monitor. Images can be saved to the patient record for future reference. With Spectra, the dentist can identify the exact location of potential carious lesions on tooth surfaces.

Air Techniques, Inc. Introduces AirStar® and STS™ Enhancements

Date: 06/22/2009

MELVILLE, NEW YORK.  Air Techniques, Inc. introduces the latest enhancements to its AirStar Air Compressors and STS Dry Vacuums.  These new advancements were created to provide you with the best possible results for your practice.

In addition to the new dryer membrane technology that will soon be available on all AirStar models, we have worked to make the AirStar quieter than ever.  To achieve minimal noise level AirStar Compressors now have improved intake filters, a redesigned purge muffler, new rubber shock mounts, and a flat frame to reduce vibration

The STS Dry Vacuum enhancements increasing product life, cleanliness, and space.  A new horizontal motor design results in a smaller footprint for space-saving flexibility.  Nickel-plating on the propeller and housing reduces oxidation therefore increasing efficiency and motor life.  The increased size of the motor bearings ensures fewer failures and increased reliability.  The CAS Washout Timer Control keeps debris from building up in the tank and helps to keep the tank clean by automatically sending water to the spray nozzle even when the pump is turned off.

Air Techniques, Inc. Presents New Membrane Dryers for AirStar® Air Compressors

Date: 04/21/2009

MELVILLE, NEW YORK –– Compressed air is essential in dentistry. Ultra-dry, oil-free air is even more important. Air Techniques, best known for its high-quality, reliable compressed air and vacuum systems, now uses a drying system that is significantly more efficient than conventional systems.

This innovative membrane system uses a unique technology to precipitate humidity through a membrane. First, the compressed air is cooled down to ambient temperature by means of aluminum ribs of a cooling element. In the next step, air flows through 1200 thin membrane fibers which dehumidify it. On the other side of the membrane fibers, dry scavenging air absorbs the humidity again – precipitating three times more water than conventional systems. Compressors can only use about 50 percent of their performance capacity with traditional drying systems because the drying agent has to regenerate at regular intervals - this is no longer necessary with membrane drying.  The compressor can run non-stop, 24 hours, increasing efficiency and allowing for better service due to extended hours of operation.

Furthermore, the system is efficient.  Humidity can be monitored continuously via the integrated control display, where status can be seen at a glance. Reading errors are almost impossible thanks to the colored scale (ranging from blue = dry to red = humid). In addition, the drying system can be equipped with a bacterial filter for increased hygiene – requiring only a few steps.

The new system has been tested under extreme conditions that would normally have an adverse effect on performance.  In both hot and dry climates, as well as the hot and humid tropical climates, the new technology has been proven successful.  Also in dental laboratories, generally known to use large quantities of compressed air, the drying system stood the test in non-stop operation.
